Knowing where to start when looking for music P.R can be a daunting task. "What do I need to have in place in order to get started with music P.R?", you might ask; well in this handy guide, we can give you all the key assets a music P.R company, like Fresh Release, will ask you for, before you can embark on a campaign together.

1. Your Music
Firstly, (and maybe most importantly), we'll need both WAV and MP3 versions of the song (or songs). What can we say; some radio / bloggers want MP3, and some want WAV, and we want to have everything we need to give your music the best shot possible.
Are you releasing a single? Maybe an E.P or an album? The point remains that, to promote your music, we'll need to have your music!

2. Your Cover Art
High quality, striking, cover art is essential to a successful release. Preferably in a square aspect ratio, over 2000 pixels by 2000 pixels in dimension, and 300 dpi in quality.
Make sure images are clear and in focus, (unless you're going for blur as a creative decision); that text is legible, and large enough to be read when images are made smaller for streaming services; and for the love of god, make sure you triple check that everything is spelled properly before you send it to your distributor for release, or to us to start your campaign!

3. High Quality Press Images
Much like your cover art, your press images should be high quality, and be representative of you as an artist. They can be fun or serious; stylized or straight studio shots; black & white, or vibrant colour. Make a statement!
Ideally you'll need images in portrait, landscape and square aspect ratios, in order to cover all bases. And like your cover art, try to make sure they are at least 300 dpi, (if you've gotten your pictures professionally taken, you should be fine.)

4. Your Artist Biography
Your bio should detail your journey as an artist; any particularly impressive highpoints, such as support slots, headline shows, or coverage you've received up until that point. Mention your name, (or the band name, plus the band members), your genre, and where you're from. If you have a notable amount of followers on socials, or streams on previous releases, it can be useful to include that too.
You'll want to write it in the third person perspective, and keep it around 150-300 words for best effect, and if you're having trouble, your P.R company can help you make it as good as can be.

5. Your Music Video
If you have a music video, (or videos for multiple songs in your release campaign), it can be helpful to include a high quality version as an extra asset to the success of your release. These days a video with dimensions of 1920x1080 pixels is the minimum you'll want, but 4k footage is also becoming more accessible.
Regardless, make sure you provide a high quality MP4 file of each video, as this can be a great tool to secure additional press, such as a video premiere on a blog, or as an eye catching asset to go alongside a review.

6. Your Social Handles and Links To Any Previous Coverage
This one is pretty straight forward; we want to convert the press you get into new fans, and followers online! So lets make sure we know where to send people when they want to find out more. This means all your social links, like Instagram or Tik Tok, as well as links to your page on streaming services, such as Spotify and YouTube.
On top of this, if you have had any previous coverage, make sure you let us know about this too. This could be coverage on a blog, in a magazine or newspaper, on the radio, or on a notable playlist. Maybe you have a notable fan, or someone of note has championed you in the past? All of this can help to build you credibility, and get you over the line when hoping to gain coverage for your music.
So, if you have all of this in place, (or most of it anyway), and want to take your music to the next level, drop us an email over on our Contact page today. We can help you polish up your assets, and get your ducks in a row to get some coverage for your new music.
